A Renaissance in the Heart of Sandton: Greenhouse Relaunch
Greenhouse is Back: Bigger, Better and Greener than Before!
SANDTON, SOUTH AFRICA – It’s been a minute, but Greenhouse is back! Joburgers will be thrilled to hear about the relaunch of this iconic urban oasis.
As part of the renowned Boulder Group, Greenhouse is sister to some of the city’s best and boldest venues, including Babylon, Amazon and the Shortmarket Club. On the 24th of August, Greenhouse will reopen its doors and reclaim its position as a premium entertainment destination for the Sandton CBD.
World class excellence with a South African edge
South African excellence with a global outlook
The restaurant has been closed for renovation since February, when a fire gutted the venue. Behind the scenes, Greenhouse has been undergoing a renaissance. The team have spared no effort or expense to create an experience on par with venues in Dubai, London and New York, and have travelled to the Middle East, Asia and Europe to study and be inspired by the hottest spots in all those locations. “We know that the Joburg clientele has been exposed to incredible things, not only here in Joburg, but in places that they’ve travelled to” says Adam Schlosberg, COO of the Boulder Group. ”We want every element of the customer experience to be escapist and magical. We aim to go above and beyond their expectations.”
In the past, Greenhouse has been the stomping ground for the who’s-who of the Johannesburg music scene. It’s played host to legendary DJs like Black Coffee and Pascal & Pearce, incredible Greece based DJ Erik Vilar, as well as providing a platform for up-and-coming acts. The Greenhouse team are eager to get back to nurturing the city’s creative talent.
So what’s new?
Greenhouse has always been known as a fully inclusive habitat with a diverse clientele of party-goers, connoisseurs and families. Those who know the brand will be happy to hear that none of that has changed. The new, re-greened venue promises the same trademark ambience, but on a bigger scale, reinvigorated with an injection of fresh energy. Here’s the inside scoop on what’s new.
The restaurant has been completely revamped. Patrons will be entering a world apart, with their senses engaged at once: textured decor, a new menu curated by head chef, Carolina Rasenti, and a signature Greenhouse scent. Every finer detail has been sourced from local suppliers and creators, from the leather binding of the new menus to the staff uniforms.
Tiling has been provided by Wolkberg Casting Studio, a proudly South African company that uses sustainable practices and scientific ingenuity to make magic with concrete, while employing and training only previously disadvantaged South Africans. At the centre of it all stands a tree fashioned from an interior column. The tree is the work of Pretoria-based master carpenter Bram Van de Minkelis, whose family has a 400-year pedigree in woodworking. It’s a symbol of the cycle of life and regrowth, and a poignant reminder of what Greenhouse has overcome.
Party with a purpose
The Greenhouse team are proud to align themselves with Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) and other charitable initiatives. Proceeds from cocktails will contribute to a variety of important social causes, in keeping with the venue’s values of respect and inclusivity.
And speaking of cocktails, Greenhouse closes at 2 am, but the party doesn’t have to end. Patrons can simply move across to its sister venue, Amazon, which closes at 6 am. Amazon is conveniently situated in the same centre, for the perfect change of pace on a big night out, without the hassle of travelling.
Open Wednesday to Sunday, Greenhouse offers something for everybody: a supper club prelude to a great night out, or a Sunday afternoon lunch with family. Also on the menu: fun, special events – drag brunches, dance clubs, quiz shows and more.
The interior space itself has been extended, with more ablution facilities for guests. Secure parking and easy access for Uber vehicles are provided by the centre. Greenhouse is also available for corporate hire, exclusive functions, and photo shoots.
