Kagiso Ken Phuduhudu – Chef and Restaurateur

My Story

Before I started my culinary career, I worked as an English Teacher in Bryanston, Sandton to save up some money to make my Culinary dreams a reality. I needed to go to the best Culinary institution and I would not compromise on that. I had to be patient, hustle and save up in the process to enrol.

I became a Prue Leith Chefs Academy graduate and started my culinary journey in the Western Cape, Stellenbosch with just my clothes, aprons, and knives at Terroir restaurant with Michael Broughton.  A couple of years later, I relocated to The Test Kitchen in Cape Town and got to work with Luke Dale Roberts.

Following that, I became the Head Chef at Glenda’s restaurant in Hyde Park, which was nominated twice as best new restaurant in 2016.

Exploration of food, ingredients is a passion of mine. I’m a Culinary consultant.

I am currently Executive Chef, Founder and Owner of The Private Dining Experience. The Private Dining Experience is modern, contemporary fine dining in the comfort of your home or one of The Private Dining Experience Penthouses, offering the utmost luxurious experiences. As a quiet yet charismatic person, Chef Ken has found himself gravitating towards television as well as entertainment. Chef Ken truly believes that it is important to share culinary knowledge, to learn and to continuously explore till you kick the bucket. African food is a cuisine Chef Ken truly loves to explore and he loves to highlight that in a modern light. Chef Ken is a culinary artist and explorer of food.

I aim to create edible art, create new dishes and revolutionize the current dishes.

An experience that set my Soul ablaze

Moving to Cape Town for my career, leaving my family and friends behind. I didn’t even know a single person in the Mother City, it’s an experience that took me out of my comfort zone.

My source of inspiration

My mentors and the people that I look up to. I mostly inspire myself, because this journey has been very difficult.
